I'm back!

Tah Dah!

You're looking at my Anniversary present!

Wednesday night, We went to Best Buy to look at computers. I found one I really liked there, but we wanted to check out the prices at the base because we don't have to pay tax there. DH looked at the base yesterday and I looked at CompUSA. It turns out that CompUSA was running a back to school promo and we got this computer there with $150 in rebates. So for just a bit more than Best Buy wanted we got a bit more stuff on this computer. It's nice and I like it a lot.

I was a bit worried about Vista (my computer geek was telling me that it sucks), but it seems to be doing okay. My only problem is that Vista won't allow me to use my Google Reader Next button. I'm sure there's a trick to it...I'll figure it out here soon.

Oh and CompUSA advertised that this computer comes with Vista Home Premium. No it doesn't! It comes with Home Basic and an upgrade to Home Premium that you have to pay more money for! WHAT? that sucks! but Home Premium doesn't do too much more than we need it for...although the premium games look cool. hee hee.

Dh figured out how to transfer all my files. YAY! So now we just have to figure out how to get MS Office for this machine. The base has a really good deal on it.

OH GET THIS!!!!

CompUSA had in their ad that we could get MS Office installed on our new computer for $19.99! I was like "COOL!" but I was also warry. I asked the sales guy to explain that to me and he said that was what they charge to put the software on our computer. I was like "WHAT? You charge $20 to put a disk in the drive and press RUN?" and he was like, "You don't even need to hit run anymore." I rolled my eyes and said "I need to get a job like that!" and he said I would be suprised at how many folks have them do it.

I seriously need a job like that! "Money for nuttin and your chicks for free!"

The anniversary update!

Here's what we did for our Anniversary.

I got our tickets for the Titanic for 9:45am. I wanted to try to beat the school groups in...and that worked out really well for us...well except for the getting up early part.

The gal at the membership desk informed me that since my membership is only good for two people I wasn't really allowed to purchase 3 Titanic tickets at the member price. hummm? They give a 10% discount on EVERYTHING when you have a membership. Oh well. She decided that it was really too late to do anything about it and probably noticed that we have been members for years so she let us in anyway. Since DH isn't a member I was going to exchange a guest pass for him to get into the museum, but she said we didn't need to do that. And the guy at the ticket taking station let us in with no worries...I've found that they normally let just about anyone in with any kind of excuse (not that we abuse that or anything ;) )

The Titanic was good. They had a lot of the same stuff that the exhibit in Vegas has...only Vegas (cuz they have more money) has a recreation of the grand staircase & the deck. But it was very good.

Darly was a 3rd class passenger. I was a 1st class passenger. & DH was a 1st class passenger. Guess who didn't make it?

DH! He was Benjamin Guggenheim .

Oh this website that I found all that info on our passengers is so cool!

okay after the museum I took Darly to her gymnastics class. And then we took her to a friend's house for a sleep over for her. She said that she didn't want to be at home to witness all the kissing. LOL!

DH & I went to have dinner at Black Angus steakhouse. We were first told that it would be a 15 minute wait for a table...which was fine by me. However we were soon seated at a very tiny table for two...where the one seat was practically in the walk way. I decided to move that chair to the other side of the table to be near DH and out of the main walk way. By the time I got my chair moved, the manager came over and offered us a booth in the back. So we moved.
It then took about 15 minutes before our server showed up! LOL! We were at first a bit put off by it because someone had brought us bread...but we had nothing to drink and were getting parched. The server appologized a lot and Dh told her that we were celebrating our anniversary.

Okay, DH & I are NOT big eaters. We normally share a meal whenever we go out because we don't need all that food. So we ordered one meal to share. Well the manager decided to buy us another meal because of all the waiting...and probably a bit because of our anniversary. So we had two prime rib dinners...but as I'm typing this I realize that we were only given one salad...DH could have had the soup he wanted. *sigh* Oh well. They also brought us a birthday dessert with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate sauce on the dish. It was very nice of them.

Dh had taken off Thursday too and we made a list of items that we wanted to get done. The biggest thing was that we really needed to get our carpets cleaned. It has been entirely too long and the winters here are murder on them. So we rented a Rug Doctor and went to work. I'm now the proud owner of much cleaner (if not wetter) carpets! And DH & I went to bed very tired & sore...I took pain killers last night.

Well I should really be packing for our camping trip and we have to scoot to a coop class.

IN RETURN FOR ALL THE PROBLEMS WE WERE UPGRADED TO THE SUITE INSTEAD OF JUST A REGULAR ROOM. THEY BROUGHT IN CARPET CLEANERS WHO JUST MANAGED TO MAKE THE CARPETS WET SO THEY STAINED MY SHOES & DRESS AND OUR SUITE HAD A HUGE BLEACH “STAIN” IN THE CARPET AND WAS A SMOKING ROOM. LUCKILY OUR REAL HONEYMOON WAS AT DISNEY WORLD WITH A BETTER ROOM… BUT BY THEN THE HURRICANE HAD MADE LANDFALL. WHICH WAS REALLY A GOOD THING…IT CLEARED OUT DISNEY AND MADE IT NOT SO HOT THERE.

I also don't know how long on Thursday Darly will be at her friend's house. We'll play that by ear.

The End of the Internet

Congratulations! This is the last page.
Thank you for visiting the End of the Internet. There are no more links.

You must now turn off your computer and go do something productive.

Go read a book, for pete's sake.

Here's the link...http://www.google.com/reader/next?go=noitems

I found this today because Barbara said I should try out this new toy from Google Reader...I clicked my new Next button and reached the End of the Internet. Can you believe it? LOL

Darly was a bit upset when she read that...she said "You mean I can't go to Webkinz again?" LOL

That Smart Cat!

Miles Meezer again has come through with the perfect camping solution for Darly!

Miles wrote: she should haf come ofur to my house - my tent is set up in front of the slidy door out of the wet, but i can still feel the cool airs. - Miles

So since we can not go all the way to Miles' house (he lives in one of the Original 13 Colonies!) We have taken his idea an improvised it a bit.

Wait a minute...zoom out!

Oh well, whatever it takes.

UPDATE: She made it! In fact she's still sleeping in the tent right now! And somewhere there is a cricket chiruping away. So we have some outdoor noise as well.

Failed camping attempt #2

Well Darly tried again last night to camp in the back yard.

This time she actually got her sleeping bag & pillow in the tent.

She went out there and was in the tent for 10 to 30 minutes before she came back inside.

Seems that the neighborhood dogs were too noisy for her. She said that one was howling.

Night #2 "Camping" in nice warm bed.

and now for the fan mail

How nice that you were willing to let Darly go through the motions of camping out in the back yard. Even though in the end, she decided not to do it, she will remember that you were willing to let her.
I don't see any reason she can't keep trying. Although DH does want the tent moved before there's a square in his grass.

Bone said...
So since she has him wrapped around her little finger they go off and do that.

LOL Hmm, soft bed in a fragrant smelling house or sleeping bag in a musty tent?

Glad you got your DSL fixed.

well the tent smells more like plastic than musty...it's new. And yeah, fixed DSL is so much better. Before it kept disconnecting and I had to reboot it. They guy said I'm less than a block from my hub so I should have awesome service. He did a bunch of stuff that got me going good and Monday a guy will come and put more power to the hub which should make all my neighbors happier too. LOL

Heather said...
LOL smart girl that one you have... will she try again anytime soon?
well we are going camping this Friday for real...she'll have to sleep in the tent then. And she's been camping lots of times. This backyard thing just wasn't going to work. LOL! I think Lilly was very interested in going though...she loves nice soft sleeping bags.

Goofy Girl said...
Hahha Darly is adorable. I hope another night works better for her for camping!
she can try as much as she wants to. We'll just have to move her tent around. Luckily we're getting rain so having the sprinklers off isn't a big deal.

LadyBugCrossing said...
It all look so different in the day light...

There's nothing better than a nice warm bed.

yeah, I enjoyed my bed too. I think she really just wanted to try solo...she didn't even want the dog with her. Lilly was bummed. LOL!

It all sounds typical of what goes on around here.

I figured it was the normal childhood experience. Although I never thought to ask to camp in the back yard when I was a kid.

Failed camping attempt

Last night Darly wanted to camp in our backyard. She didn't care that it had been raining since 2pm. She just wanted to camp. So get gets a tent out of the basement and takes it out back to try to set it up.

After realizing that she cannot set it up herself, she requests my help.

I take one look at her camping location (btw: all she had managed to do with the tent was get it out of the box, and put the tent poles through the top!) that she was downhill in the yard. If we got any more rain (which we did) she would have water hopefully running under her and not through the tent. I suggested she try a spot on higher ground.

I should mention here that my entire back yard slopes to the south. There's a flatish area from the back door where they put in a retaining wall to give us someplace to enjoy the yard.

So we move the tent to the flatish area in the yard and get it set up. Darly crawls in and we decide that since it smells that we should try airing it out a bit. Darly then comes in the house and plays for quite a bit.

DH comes home and she announces to him that since she is camping in the back yard that he needs to turn off the sprinklers...RIGHT NOW! So since she has him wrapped around her little finger they go off and do that. DH surveys the camping area and announces that he does not feel as if she'll actually make it out there the entire night. I agree but I figure it couldn't hurt for her to try.

We have dinner and watch TV while Darly plays and wait for the camping to begin.

Eventually Darly dresses for bed in her winter pajamas because since we had so much rain it is quite chilly outside.

I'm not sure when she decided that she wasn't going to bother camping, but she never did put her sleeping bag in the tent and she never went back outside after dark.

Instead she slept in her nice warm & dry bed upstairs. She didn't wake up until the guy from Qwest showed up to fix my DSL. Which is working awesomely now! YAY!

Rest & what?

hello viewers! welcome to your update...hee hee

last we saw Renee she was finishing up her Wednesday.

Well since then we had Thursday where Renee got to sleep in some more and do pretty much nothing. ahhhhh!

When I finally did get up I decided that I should go hang a yellow jacket trap because the yellow jackets are trying to eat all my apples. It was one of those new Raid yellow jacket traps and what does the fluid in there smell like? Apple Juice! hummm I'm wondering if that's gonna work at all?

So later...much later when Darly finally gets up we go outside to check the trap and see it. Well Lilly (who loves to play on the slides on play sets) begs to get up on the slide. So I go to pick her up and Darly begins to tell me but doesn't finish in time that Lilly shouldn't go on the slide because there's a nest of yellow jackets in her ladybug house that is sitting on the slide. Guess where Lilly's nose went right away? of course, right into the nest.

Her nose caused the jackets to swarm and they were buzzing all around Lilly who was of course confused and she didn't know what to do and there were two blocking her from sliding down the slide, so she tried to jump off the ladder...so I blocked her and then called her to go down the slide. But then she decideds that she wants to go back after those silly bugs...and tries to jump up the ladder of the slide. Luckily she was still unable to climb it. (the "ladder" is actually a fake rock wall...or large slats of wood with a few rock climbing hand holds on it.)

I then sent Darly & Lilly in the house and knocked the ladybug house off the playset. Then I went to get the yellow jacket spray that shoots from 22 feet away! And I blasted those suckers! I haven't checked, but I'm sure the ones that are there are dead and the rest left town. I need to check my trap, but I really think that all yellow jackets will be on my apples.

And then a friend calls to say she wants to take Darly with her kids to Fantastic Fun! (I tried to get you a link, but they're too cheap to do that.) LOL! So my friend says she's coming to take Darly for the afternoon and I should do something "productive" with my time.

So what do I do? Well I hopped on the computer and visited all my blog friends and then I decided I should take a shower since I really needed one. LOL! And then I called up DH and told him that Darly was with her friends and wouldn't be home until at least 7pm, what would he like to do?

So Dh asks where Darly will be having dinner. I tell him "with them" and then he asks if he should bring home dinner. I say no, we still have dinner here. So I remind him to think about what he "would like to do this evening."

Guess what he wanted to do?

Enjoy your time off!

I was thinking about how to get more people involved at church, a personal invitation. Something like:
"Mary, we need to catch up. Do you want to join me at the church office at 9AM thuis Thursday, then we could do lunch. "

That would work on me.

hummm that's kinda how I got dragged into this. LOL! I just wasn't devious enough to try it myself.

I thought I led a busy life...you have me beat. Sounds like you and Darly are having a fun time. Glad to hear that some of your volunteering responsibilities are winding down. I'm betting that suddenly the 14th - 19th will be booked up too. Try and get some rest!

well not entirely booked, but not entirely with nothing to do either.

Heather said...
Wow... and I thought I was busy ;) Permission granted ;)

gee thanks. But I feel bad for you with all your packing to do...even though I know that in a sick way you love all this packing. LOL!

Whew. I'm exhausted just reading how busy you've been. I think I'll go finish my Catnap.

oooh a catnap! I wanna join you!

Well for my update...

Monday we went up Mt Evans with our homeschooling group. Darly & I carpooled so she and I both had someone to chat with the entire trip up. It was very nice. We had lunch at Echo Lake and did a bit of exploring around the lake. Then hopped into our cars and drove up to the top parking lot...then hiked up the rest of the way. Darly had a blast climbing up the rocks between the paths (she loves rock climbing) but I would only allow her to do it on the parts that were like 4 to 5 feet between paths. {I should note here that from the parking lot to the top they have a zig zag path cut into the mountain.} So she and her friends climbed up that way. I did a few of the climbs but stuck to the path most of the way and the other girls' mom did the path the entire way.

The lack of oxygen up there along with the wind chill making it feel like it was only 40 degrees up there and then the pressure on my poor ears made me such a happy girl! read that with dripping sarcasm! But I didn't mind doing it...it's an awesome view! God has done an incredible job with that landscape. hee hee You just have to see it for yourself, it's incredible.

Well due to my very poor planning we did not make it back home in time for Darly to go to her gymnastics class. And then Darly announces to me that she wants to quit! WHAT??? Not after I paid this year's registration fee. Why does she keep doing this to me??? Argh!

After I calmed down I figured out what is really going on here...because she gave me really lame excuses for why she wanted to quit...I wish she would just tell me the truth. Anyway she is getting bored in her current class and annoyed because we have to keep interupting her fun times with her friends to go to her class. So I suggest that perhaps for the summer months we cut back to only once per week and we see how close she is to moving up to the next class...or see if she can work on something to help her move up.

Tuesday I got to sleep in!!! YAY! Woo HOO! can you tell I'm excited?
After all of that I had lots of computer work to do for some homeschooling stuff coming up, but luckily the ladies I work with are killer awesome and my job was minimal and easy to do.

This morning I got to sleep in again...but woke up with a start remembering that today was Wednesday...but thinking that it was NEXT Wednesday...my Anniversary and totally panicked until I realized that I was a week off. whew!

Darly & I then headed to the park to see our friends and had a great time. We also got to leave early enough that Darly wasn't all whiny about being too tired for Gym and having to leave her friends for class.

When we got to the gym this evening we talked to the owner first about where Darly is in her class...he had to ask her coach as the coach had Darly's progress card...to update them all. Next thing we know the coach is there to tell us that Darly is ready to move up to the next level!!! WOW! We were both suprised and happy. Darly was doing extra flips in class. LOL!

The only bummer is now we have to wait for an opening in the next class for her to move up. But since my original plan was to cut her back to only once per week...and I found out from another mom that those classes are all full, this may work out better for us. The coach said that there are a few girls in the Advanced Girls class who will be moving up soon so Darly is either #1 or #3 on the waitlist...not too shabby. Course this will mean switching days at the gym and a later class, but we'll manage. I'll have to talk DH into picking Darly up at the gym once a month so I can still do TNO.

Since we all know how I'm a nut and overschedule my life and such...you'll be happy to know that I'm planning an investiture/rededication/bridging* ceremony for my Girl Scout troop. Today I picked up the pins and patches for this event and found out the Daisy colors so I can try to match up the candals to them. I still need to reserve our space and then find the candals & candal holders. Most troops (or at least the ones in all the Girl Scout books) use a log with holes drilled in it for the candal holders. I've got some wood out back that might work if I can get it sawed straight. Perhaps I should get DH to do that on his table saw for me. I'll be in less trouble that way. ;) he would have a cow if I used his table saw.

*Investiture: when a girl becomes invested or first becomes a Girl Scout
Rededication: when a girl rededicates herself to Girl Scouts
Bridging: when a girl moves up to the next level of Scouting

Since our Troop has Daisies, Brownies & Juniors in it we have Girls doing all of those things.

Now I've decided that to save some money I'll just make the bags for the pins & patches we need to hand out...so Darly has volunteered to decorate the bags since they're made from old computer paper (hey, that's using resources wisely! - part of the law)

Tomorrow is still blank on my calendar...lets see if it truely stays that way. Wish me luck!

Stop the world! I wanna get off and take a nap.

For those of you still wondering...no, we don't have the spoon back yet. I won't get to try until this Wednesday. And now on to other news.

Oh my gosh it has been so busy around here lately. I feel like I have to pencil in time to breathe...and what the heck is my neighbor doing outside my house? I keep hearing car doors slam...over and over! I'm too busy to go look though.

So after we went looking for Darly's mess kit at the GS council office we went to see our friends at Park Day. There was a nice big turn out and I got to tell one of the new moms afterward who all she met. I can't blame her, it was a lot of names to remember. But we saw a bunch of them again on Thursday...so I think that she's set.

After the park we headed to Gymnastics class...where Darly was goofing off. So I opened up the door and told her "Do it Right and Stop Goofing Off!" Her coach looks at me through the glass and says "Thank You!" It was just so frustrating to both of us because we know that Darly can do these things but if she doesn't do them consistantly she doesn't get credit for them and won't move up any. And I know it's just recreational gymnastics, but I can tell that Darly is getting bored and wants to learn new things...but she can't learn new things until she's gotten down all the old skills consistantly...nice vicious circle, huh?

Thursday I got to answer phones again and finished up a few projects for the office manager. I know that there is lots more to do in fact she has a project she's got my name on for the next time I come in. And I do feel appreciated there...I just wish it wasn't the "same 4 people who do everything at Church" thing. Actually there are 6 of us who come in to answer phones. That 4 people thing is a cliche that all Churches use as a joke, because it does seem as if only the same 4 folks do everything. But out of us 6 there are only 2 who feel comfortable enough with the computer to sit down and work on the files they need updating. Perhaps with the new families joining we'll also get some more office help. I sure hope so, or maybe they can persuade the counsil to hire someone to work the other two days. *sigh*

After working the phones on Thursday morning, I took Darly to a birthday party for two of her friends. Oh my did they invite a ton of kids! They had new homeschooling kids, old private school kids and then neighbor kids too! Well the girls got tons of gifts, but I sure hope their parents go smaller next year. Darly was eyeing all the loot the girls brought in and thinking that she wants a large party for her next birthday...but I had to remind her that she gets overwhelmed at these things and the gifts just aren't worth the stress to her or me. I sure hope it works.

Friday morning we didn't have anything planned and it was hot out, so we called up our brand new friends who are moving here in October but were here to look for a house to go to the spray ground. They were game so we went and had a blast!

At first the park was very crowded, there was actually a very large party going on at the pavillion right next to us, but it cleared out soon. Then there was this guy giving out FREE Minute Maid frozen treats! Wow! That was fun. Darly didn't even finish her lunch for that. Oh well, not a big deal. Since the spray ground was pretty busy the kids decided to play in the nearby field and roll down the hill. They were having a great time, but that fun ended when it started to rain.

So we grabbed our things and headed for the next pavillion over...which happend to have the inline hockey rink. Well since it was raining with lightening we sat and snacked for a bit. I gave the girls a quick lesson in hail (I forgot to mention that it was hailing too...huh? It was just tiny pea sized hail.) And I suggested that the kids make a tent with the towels & one of the picnic tables. They had fun but the littlest guy kept bonking his head on the way out from the table. Poor kiddo.

We snapped lots of pictures...gotta get permission to post them though. And the kids ran into the rain lots. After the rain slowed down they went out on the hockey rink and had lots of fun because it was filling up with water. Nice warm water.

After the rain stopped the kids went to the lake and found a crawfish that they wanted me to catch for them. Luckily it scooted off before I even saw it...not that I'm afraid (I grew up in Louisianna and we ate plent of the little buggers!)...I just really wasn't in the mood to catch the poor guy. And apparently he wasn't in the mood to get caught. LOL

When it looked as if the rain was all done we went back to the spray ground and had it mostly to ourself...but there was lots of mud, which the kids didn't mind one bit. And I was okay with my kid getting muddy...there were free showers right there. hee hee

So it was finally time to go and we still had more to do! Friday night we went to the Denver Aquarium. Darly had a great time and saw lots of her favorite sea creatures. I sure wish that one time when we go that the otters would be awake, but they weren't. boo! I did get to see a very cute sleeping otter face though.

Unfortunately my good buddy and the person who arranged the trip to the Aquarium didn't get to go...and it was her birthday too. I'm so sorry that she didn't get to go and I hope she had a fun time at home doing her favorite thing.

Dh didn't go with us to the Aquarium because last time when we went we had dinner there and didn't get home until past his bed time. But this time we didn't eat there (cuz it cost an arm & a leg...which I'm sure they feed to the sharks!) and we were home before the sun went down...which isn't saying much as it stays up to almost 9pm here. hee hee

Then yesterday I had my FINAL LLL area team meeting! YAY! They're great people and I've had a blast working with them...but I'm ready to move on. The meeting was from 9am to 4pm. We did a lot of planning and budgeting...and I'm so glad to be moving on.

Today we went to Church and then over to MIL's house. We finally remembered her birthday gift only an entire month late and we had a fabulous dinner. I'm so stuffed.

Tomorrow we are on the go again as we are climbing up Mt Evans...okay I have to point out that most of the trip will be in the car as Mt Evans has the highest paved road in the US...but it doesn't go all the way to the top. Darly loves to rock climb so I'm sure she'll be doing lots of that and forcing me to go with her. I just hope that she doesn't wear herself out 'cuz she has gymnastics class too.

But get this... the 14th threw the 19th we have NOTHING scheduled. We'll be at the park & gymnastics on Wednesday but other than that we are free! YAY! Maybe I'll get to sleep? Nah, don't count on it. ha ha

See ya around.

Missing mess kit saga

As you know, Darly went to Girl Scout camp back in July. When I picked her up I asked to be sure that she had everything. She had a check list that she was supposed to use to pack everything up before leaving. I asked her and she said it was all there.

Then after we are loaded in the car and almost all of the way home she tells me (and she could have told me this at home...it's a bit of a blur) that they couldn't fit her mess kit* in her bags so it's by itself.

WHAT????!!!!

Hold the phone here! "you're telling ME, the person who never looses ANYTHING (well practically anything) that we've just left something behind?" Oh I was livid! and of course Darly answers with the same thing she says every time she's screwed up "Sorry" with the tone of course that means "you're totally unreasonable here mom!"

Luckily all is not lost. I do not have to drive all the way back to the camp because they bring the lost and found to the GS Counsil office after the campground closes for the summer. I just have to wait unil camp closes on Aug 6th. Okay!

So I call yesterday and get the procedure...no they won't look to see if it's there for me, bummer! I have to come down to the office and find it myself.

So we go there today (and another bummer is that the shop where we get our badges is closed this week for inventory! I'll have to go back next week.) And the receptionist tells me the procedure...I have to go downstairs to the girls' bathroom and find the camp name on the wall and then dig through all that stuff to find my daughter's mess kit. great!...go back and read that with dripping sarcasm!

Now we're in the bathroom and find the camp name and WHOLY COW! You would NOT BELIEVE how much stuff was in this bathroom! They were so very nice to organize it in trash bags...labeled SHOES, JACKETS, PONCHOS, etc... but the mess kits (YES! THERE WAS MORE THAN JUST MY DD'S) were just all over it seemed...but really some were sitting on a bench (for the shower) and the rest were on the floor...oh and I couldn't believe how many were no longer in their dunk bags** So while some were still in their bags there were just as many that were not in the bags. Ours was among the ones not in it's bag.

I looked everywhere for our bag. I thought our bag would stand out as I had sewed it with pink thread and had made it by cutting a laundry bag in half and sewing up the bottom. Well no such luck on the bag. It seems that I wasn't the only mom who had the exact same idea...I counted at least 5 that were the same type laundry bag I had used.

Then I looked for the dishes. I found everthing except for our spoon...funny there weren't any of that kind of spoon (it was one of those sets where the fork & knife hook onto the spoon and slip into a plastic bag...that I didn't find either! Hey, that might be the key to finding the spoon...look for the bag!)

I just took a bag since I figure that someone else has probably taken our bag. The receptionist asked how we did and said we could leave our name for when they get rid of the left overs if they find our spoon they'll call us. I'm not holding my breath.

Since I have to go back next week for our badges I'll check again hoping for less stuff to sort through. and hope that the other searchers haven't just made it a bigger mess.

Darly says the reason she didn't use the checklist and make sure the mess kit was packed is that they only gave the girls 30 minutes to pack up and she needed help to get her sleeping bag rolled up...oh and there was no room to roll up her sleeping bag because they had 5 girls in her tent. I have to wonder about that as I give her plenty of time to get ready for stuff at home and she spends the time playing instead. I should email the camp manager...ha ha Darly doesn't know I have that power.

*A mess kit is your personal set of dishes...plate, bowl, cup, fork, knife & spoon.

**A dunk bag is a mesh bag with a draw string that you place your mess kit in to dunk it in hot water after you wash it to rinse it and the hot water helps to dry the dishes quicker.

Answers to your comments:

THIS IS NOT YOUR KID! I get to mess her up. Ha ha!

Okay, rant over.

The only thing that I was upset over was that she forgot to tell me that the mess kit was not in her bag and when I asked to be sure that she still only had 2 bags to take home she said yes. If she had remembered that the mess kit was not in her bag, I would have dug through all the other bags in the horse trailer (ewwwe yuck!) and found the mess kit as well. And she could have tied the mess kit to her back pack or stuffed it in the laundry bag that they used to pack her sleeping bag and we wouldn’t have been in this mess. *Sigh* I’m also thinking that a better policy for the camp would be to keep track of how many bags/items the girls put in the trailer when they load it. So on the list have “Darly: 3 items”…so when I go to get the items they could tell me I need to look for 3. Or at the very least have the girls put their items in the trailer together. Her sleeping bag was on one side and her back pack on the other…what’s up with that?

Sounds like maybe she was right? ;-)

Even the most organized people in the world forget or lose things from time to time... glad you got almost everything back.
No, I don’t think I was being unreasonable. I’ll admit that perhaps I am a bit neurotic about making sure I don’t leave any of my stuff behind somewhere…but that is inherited and she should have that DNA as well! I’m glad we got most of it back too, but for next year she’s gonna have a plan and if necessary…I’ll make her hike all the way back to her tent to be sure she got it all.

LOL well... the good news is you only have lost a spoon right? I am sorry you had to endure all that!
Yes, all that is truly lost is the spoon and there may be a chance of getting that back…but the time spent searching for it can never be recovered.

As a totally organized (neurotic) person, when it comes to packing and not losing things, I understand your frustration about Darly losing something at camp. I'm guessing it's not the actual loss of dunk bag etc. that was bothering you, but the lack of paying attn. to be sure that she had everything, that was probably bothering you. (sometimes I feel like the kids don't really care about the stuff, because they didn't buy it). However, I can tell you, from experience, that you're lucky that's all she lost.
You’re absolutely right about the lack of attention. In fact I seriously considered just not bothering trying to recover the mess kit. But the plate & cup were from our camping gear and I really hated to part with it…as it means more dish washing while we camp. And yes I do realize it could have been much worse. I suppose a bit of it is the shock that she did forget because usually she is much more conscientious about her things

Well it appears Darly is in good company...the amount of "stuff" in the Lost & Found indicates she's not the only girl with this problem. While I understand how frustrating and time-consuming it can be for mom, please cut Darly some slack...this plea comes from a once-upon-a-time camper who lost her share of belongings...trust me!
true! Very true! Of course all the camp materials said to only send things that you don’t mind loosing because the girls always leave things behind. But I don’t think that it is too early to teach her how to be responsible for her belongings.

Talk about determination! I think I would have just said, "forget it". ;-)
I almost did. But the GS council office is just a few blocks from the park we go to every Wednesday. Now if I would have had to drive all the way back up to the campground to go get it…that would have been a totally different story!

A great Idea from a CAT!

In my post below I was pondering my potty situation while camping and my good buddy Miles Meezer (who happens to be a cat) gave me a pretty good idea. Well not directly.

Miles suggested that I use a "giant litterbox" while camping. I wonder if he knows that when you really rough it out there they tell you to dig "cat holes" to bury your waste in. Hummm... well anyway.

My take on Miles' suggestion is to take a small container of kitty litter with me to either dump into my potty's bag after use or before...I'll have to see which works better to help with the possible odor.

I plan on switching out the bags frequently enough that odor shouldn't be a problem, but the litter might help me use less bags. Course it might smell kitty fresh in there and I shouldn't get the kind that release fragrance when your cat steps on it...LOL!

Off in search of free samples of kitty litter. Or at least small packages.

my great camping idea (s)...

okay, by popular demand I'm gonna tell you my great camping idea. And subject myself to the ridicule that is sure to come as my idea may not work out at all...but hey it's worth a shot...right? LOL!

Okay. here's our problem. Sometimes the bathrooms at campgrounds can be really really yucky or be very far away or it could be raining or whatnot. So I bought myself a portable potty to take with us camping. It isn't as nice as Jen's Luggable Loo, but I think for just Darly & I it should work out just fine.

So the next problem was to figure out where we would put it. At first I thought that I would sew or glue or whatever, some fabric to hang in one part of our tent (this isn't acutally our tent, but it's the same size...ours has a screened room off the front door and for some odd reason they stopped making it) to have a separate "room" for using the "facility" as it were.

But then it came to me.

I could try to take our little tent (Not Really This Tent, but very small like it and square) and but it up to our regular tent (sorta seen above). So that all we would have to do is step through the joined up doors to get to our own little "biffy".

The only things that could go wrong are 1) that the doors could both lean back too much making it not possible to but them up to each other and 2) most camp sites only allow 2 tents each...and with my sunshade (not the one on the tent, but my other one) I could be in trouble for having too many tents on one site. But perhaps when I prove to them that I've only got two campers & a dog on the site they'll be okay with it...the reason for just two tents is to control how many folks are on the site. I think.

I'm actually not going to set up my sunshade per say because I managed to break it in a few spots (it was too cheap!) but I wanted to fling it up over my car to try to block the sun out of the windows and provide some shade to keep it cool and keep my cooler cooler! LOL! I crack myself up.

So I guess now I have to pull out my tents and set them up in the back yard to see if my plan might work. Since I have to go through all my geer anyway...making sure it's all there and such that won't be much of a problem...if I can find the time to do it.

Thursday 13 reasons I can't post anything

will this really be a Thursday Thirteen? I dont know. I just haven't updated my blog in a while so I thought I would write something.

1. There really hasn't been much that I've considered blog worthy going on here.

2. Dh came home, so I've got lots of laundry to do

3. Oh and there's Darly's camp stuff to unpack and clean & wash the laundry from that too.

4. The dogs have been really good...well except for Lilly's renewed interest in barking her fool head off at the neighbors' dogs.

5. Dh brought home a cold with him from his trip...I might be coming down with it, even though he refuses to kiss me so that I stay healthy.

6. Darned hormones...too tired and cranky to post anything.

7. Darly didn't get into the extra gymnastics class so there's nothing to report there.

8. Harry Potter is "over" now so except for the next movies there's nothing more to look forward to there.

9. I've been putting off a bunch of stuff so I should really be doing that instead of posting on blogs.

10.I really wanna go camping...so I just booked a few days at a campground nearby. I hope the weather holds out. It won't be fun sitting in the car. But I did think of an idea for a situation for camping that we came up with (not really a problem) I hope they don't get after me for having too many tents on my campsite though.

11. my legs are acting up again. Although I haven't talked to my doctor about this ('cuz I haven't been in to see her) I think that I might have Restless Leg syndrome but perhaps not since they only feel creapy when I'm awake...once I'm asleep I don't notice if they wiggle.

12. Darly has a friend over right now who is probably helping her to mess up all my hard work on the basement. I've told her that if they don't put it all away, I'll just toss it.

13. I wasn't sure I would have 13 things here. LOL! Oh this is blogworthy...I went to get gas for my car today and the price listed on their sign was like 20 cents less than everywhere else in town...but get this...they had plastic bags on every pump...I guess they ran out of gas! I wish they had put that on the sign instead of having us all drive in for gas and nothing!
